In response to the short statement published by the Modeling Network on the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in autumn and winter 2022/2023, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Alexander Kuhlmann, head of the network’s coordination office, was interviewed by Deutschlandfunk (DLF) on Monday.
Together with other experts from the modeling network, the health economist has simulated three different scenarios for possible SARS-CoV-2 infection waves for this fall and winter. The effect of vaccination with the new, adapted vaccine was also taken into account. However, Kuhlmann said in the interview that it is impossible to predict whether the infection rate is at the beginning of a wave similar to that of 2021. Another decisive factor is whether new virus variants emerge and what characteristics they would have.
