MONID Workshop 2025 “Modeling diseases with the German Epidemic Microsimulation System (GEMS)”

On 24. & November 25, 2025 a workshop on “Modelling diseases with the German Epidemic Microsimulation System (GEMS)” will be organized by the MONID coordination office in cooperation with the OptimAgent project at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale ).

GEMS is the main result of the OptimAgent project and is a powerful, resource-efficient and user-friendly simulation framework for modeling respiratory infections based on a comprehensive model of the German population. With just a few lines of code, complex intervention strategies such as vaccination, isolation, testing, contact tracing or school closures can be simulated. The software also offers extensive functions for evaluating and visualizing the results. Smaller regional and synthetic population models will be used in the workshop.

Contents:

  • Carrying out simulation experiments with GEMS
  • Visualization and analysis of the simulation results
  • Import and export of data
  • Modeling scenarios with prevention measures and comparing different intervention strategies
  • Support with the implementation of your own ideas!

This course is aimed at scientists with an interest in agent-based modeling and basic knowledge of infectious disease modeling. The course is free of charge and takes place in person (maximum number of participants: 45, “first-come-first-served” principle). The event language is German and English.

The registration deadline ends on November 07, 2025 – Registration link
